Holiday photographs are supposed to offer lasting reminders of happy times spent with family and friends.

But for Tina Richardson and her daughter Chloe, 15, the snaps from their 2009 holiday in Florida only made them think twice about their weight.

Tina had reached 13 stone 7 pounds, whilst Chloe, who attends Portsmouth High School, had hit 14 stone.

The pair were determined to drop the takeaways and chocolate so they could go back and have a holiday to remember – and not for the wrong reasons.

‘The first time we went to Florida, we weren’t happy when we saw the photos, we were feeling down about it,’ says 40-year-old Tina.

‘We’re big fans of Disney World and walking is a big part of that as the parks are huge. The first time we went we were restricted as to what we could do. Carrying the extra weight had a big impact.

‘We had to stop quite often so we weren’t able to do as much.

‘The rides felt especially intimidating – I didn’t feel comfortable going on the rides.

‘We were planning on going back two years later and I didn’t want to look like that again.’

The pair stayed true to their word and when they returned to Florida last year they’d shed an impressive amount of weight.

Tina now weighs 10 stone 4 pounds and Chloe has lost more than two stone.

The mum and daughter joined a Slimming World group and Tina has taken the lead by planning healthier meals at home instead of relying on takeaways.

Yet the key to their success has been working together to help keep each other motivated.

Tina, from Sarisbury Green near Fareham, adds: ‘It’s definitely a team effort, everyone can have bad days but we really feed off each other.

‘We wanted a healthier lifestyle. It’s been a life-changing experience – eating healthier is not something that’s a chore, it’s all about enjoying life and getting the most out of it.’

All the hard work has paid off, with Tina dropping from a size 18 dress to a trim 10/12. Chloe has also dropped three dress sizes, going from an 18 to a 12.

Tina adds: ‘I feel much more confident and outgoing. Before I preferred to stay in because I looked and felt frumpy.

‘Before I would’ve been in trousers and a jumper but now I wear skirts and heels – I feel much more feminine.’

The changes have also boosted Chloe’s confidence and Tina is proud of her daughter’s new found love for sport.

Chloe is now active and confident, taking part in a wide number of sports, including karate, netball and trampolining.

The sport has helped so much that on a recent trip to Barcelona, Chloe was able to feel confident about wearing a bikini.

‘She is much more confident in what she does,’ says Tina. ‘She is very sporty.’

The pair are now looking forward to their next holiday in Florida and still attend their weekly Slimming World sessions in Copnor.
