A former teacher from King Richard School has written a book to inspire children to achieve the best they can.

Jim Roberson, 53, taught PE and citizenship at the school in Paulsgrove for 13 years but left four years ago.

Now he has written a book called The Discipline Coach.

Jim, from Old Turnpike in Fareham, is American and used to take children from the school on regular trips to New York. He also used to teach American football.

He says: ‘Paulsgrove is my inspiration. I absolutely loved my time at King Richard. I still have many friends in Paulsgrove.

‘Without my experience at King Richard I wouldn’t be writing this book.

‘I’m a firm believer in one life. The biggest gift you will ever receive is in education.’

He adds: ‘What I tried to do through trips or through school was to let them know what they could do through the rest of their life and through education. It was about them and their futures.’

Now, he hopes the book goes on to inspire youngsters.

‘It’s for anybody, but in particular the target I wanted to hit was young people,’ he says.

‘It’s a real feelgood thing about where you can go with your life and where you can take it.

‘The main message to come out of it is about self-discipline with young people.

‘Our biggest thing is to help people to help themselves.

‘It’s helping you to inspire yourself and get up and move on.’
