Bright schoolboy Harry Green has officially joined the millionaires’ club – after reading a record number of words since the start of the school year.

The 11-year-old has stunned teachers at Park Community School in Leigh Park with his voracious appetite for adventure and comedy stories, which has seen him accumulate 1,190,000 words in no fewer than 52 books.

The aspiring writer loves to read. But an ‘accelerated reading’ scheme for all Year Sevens with the promise of points, more challenging books and certificates has given him an even bigger incentive to hit the library.

Harry , who made 24 months’ reading progress in 10 months, said: ‘I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, because I know how important reading is not just to improve my vocabulary and broaden my mind but also to help me succeed in exams and later in life. These days I read lots of different authors.’
