We asked you to put forward the healthcare professionals and volunteers that provide exceptional service - and for the third year running we’ve had an overwhelming response from our readers for the Best of Health Awards 2012.
Today we announce the nominations list of all those talented doctors, nurses, dentists and pharmacists, who go above and beyond the call of duty to help patients and their families.
There’s also the dedicated teams of community nurses and teams and carers who all play a pivotal role in our healthcare.
This year’s awards were launched at the end of April, giving people the chance to recognise our hardworking NHS staff and volunteers.
Mark Waldron, editor of The News, says: ‘Staying healthy and looking after yourself is hugely important.
‘Sometimes we fall ill or need medical help. It’s then an army of health care professionals and volunteers step forward and provide a huge duty of care.
‘Whether we see them for a day, or have long-term care, the impact made can be life changing.
‘And it’s these very people we say thank you to with these health awards.
‘Looking at the volume of entries, I can see that our readers have been touched by the hard work of our doctors, nurses, carers and midwives, to name a few.
‘Thank you to all the readers that nominated health workers and the support they have shown to these awards.’
A shortlist will be compiled soon with those being invited to a ceremony at the Guildhall in Portsmouth on Friday, September 21.
And we’re hoping as many of you as possible will join us to celebrate the achievements of those who make the health service what it is.
Paul Edmondson-Jones, director of public health in Portsmouth, says: ‘I think The News Best of Health Awards are a great way to recognise some of the excellent work carried out by staff across the health sector everyday.
‘The NHS is undergoing a period of tremendous change, so recognition for a job well done – particularly when it comes from patients or their families – gives everyone a welcome boost.
‘I congratulate all nominees for getting this far.’
