A giant Scalextric set might seem like an unusual choice of wedding entertainment, but a groom’s life-long passion makes it less surprising.
Laurence Brown has been a big motor racing fan since he was tiny and now his wife Lisa loves watching the action on track too.
Laurence’s dad Noel is a former racing driver and his grandad also raced. So the couple decided an F1 theme was definitely the way to go for their wedding at Stanwell House Hotel in the New Forest.
‘Our seating plan was a chequered flag and our centrepieces were black and white too. They were lilies with sprayed black foliage intertwined,’ says Lisa, 29.
And then of course there was that Scalextric track, which proved to be a big hit with the guests and Laurence, although Lisa managed to coax him away for their first dance to Charlene Soraia’s version of Wherever You Will Go.
She say: ‘I really like F1 too now but it was mainly for Laurence. But I always think the bride gets to choose everything else, so it was nice to have something for him.’
Lisa and 30-year-old Laurence also named their tables after racing car teams and made sure the top table was McLaren.
The couple, from Fareham, spent their honeymoon in Antigua.
