What would be your ideal weekend destination?
Palma Nova in Majorca. I spent so much time there as a kid, it just feels like home.
Not counting your loved ones, who would be your dream companion?
For a laugh and a good sing song, it would have to be Elton John. He’s probably my favourite artist. I’ve seen him many times in concert.
He can bring his red piano with him and his whole musical anthology.
What music would you take with you?
Musical theatre songs. They have so much more variation.
Plus I annoy my wife with my collection of 1950s and ’60s songs. I was brought up with old songs which I adore.
What about something to read?
I like any showbiz autobiography. I’m currently reading Paul O’Grady. He is such an inspiration in the showbiz world, starting at the bottom and working so hard to get where he is today.
What would be your ultimate way to relax?
Spending time with my family. They are all the most important thing to me.
My brother has beaten off two lots of cancer in the last 18 months and to me is such a legend. He has even started up his own charity now called kickitintotouch.org.
If money were no object, which shop would you head for?
I think it would have to be the Apple store! I love anything Mac-related. The iPad has to be one of the best things I’ve ever bought. Because I travel so much, I have everything to hand – my music, internet, everything.
What’s your all-time favourite film?
I love Forrest Gump, a real feelgood film with great acting. Tom Hanks at his best but it’s something about the amazing soundtrack in this film that gets me excited.
We’re buying the drinks tonight. What’s your poison?
A nice glass of Rioja which I discovered from Neil Morrissey, who – believe me – knows his wines.
What are you doing this weekend?
Saturday is my final performance in Birmingham with Oliver!, then Sunday is my first day of a week’s holiday.
What’s a favourite local
destination for a weekend day out?
I don’t get many weekends free, but if I do I spend them with my wife in our new home and visit family and friends.
