It might look like going for a stroll but Nordic Walking is no leisurely amble in the park.

Fans of this exercise technique say it is one of the most effective way to get fit – and now it is coming to Fareham.

Age UK’s ‘fit as a fiddle’ programme of guided outdoor activities for the 50-plus age group will launch a course in the town this spring.

The course will cost £30 for four one-hour sessions.

Nordic Walking works the upper and lower body, strengthens the back, legs and arms, reduces neck and shoulder tension and improves the health of the heart and lungs.

The training is given at different levels to suit different requirements. The health level is suitable for those who are new to exercise, or returning from injury, or illness. Fitness level is for people who are already active and want to get fitter.

The new course will take place on Fridays in Fareham, starting on May 20.

Walkers should meet in the Shearwater Avenue car park, Cams Hill, at 10am for the health level and 11.30am for the fitness level
