First Lady Michelle Obama is already a big fan and A-lister Will Smith is quite handy with his hoop.
Now Sally Cox is on a mission to introduce more people to the benefits of working out with hula hoops.
She’s just become a full-time hoop instructor and runs fitness classes across the area.
As well as her established classes in Portsmouth, Havant and Stubbington, she’s introducing a taster course for those who are new to hula hoops. The six-week beginners course starts at 5.15pm on Tuesday January 17 and will take place at Charter Community Sports Centre in Southsea.
Sally says it’s a great way to get fit: ‘It’s a core exercise so it’s targeting the tummy although we do work the arms, legs and bum too. You can burn 100 calories in 10 minutes and it’s fun.
‘It keeps you motivated because even when you think you can’t do it, you can. Everyone can do it with a bit of time and the right hoop.
‘I’ve got people who’ve dropped a dress size and it’s good for your posture and confidence.’
Sally charges £4.50 per class or £20 for five weeks. She provides the hoops and also sells them if you become a fan and want your own.
