Reunion: Horndean Children of the ’40s.

Were your teachers Mr White, Mr Jay, Mrs Nellthorpe, Miss Reeves and the unforgettable Mrs Spencer?

If so, then you are one us – a Horndean child of the ’40s. The 11th reunion will be held on Tuesday, September 13 at Horndean Football Club, Five Heads Road, 11am to 4pm for Horndean children of the ’40s.

A buffet will be provided as usual and an update on the progress of our project to erect a memorial on the Mosquito crash in February 1945 in which P/Officers E Wicky DFC and O. Mountford DFC made their supreme sacrifice.

If anyone is able to publicise this reunion to any contemporaries of ours please do so.

CHANDLER: I am researching the Chandler family who ran pubs in the Portsmouth area in the 19th and 20th centuries and would like to hear from any anyone descended from them.

Here are some of the Chandlers and the pubs they ran:

Robert James Chandler (1860-1948). The Red Lion, St Marys Road

John Chandler (1924-1909). The Battle of Minden, St Marys Road.

William Chandler (1794-1864). The Mayflower, Highland Road.

Shepherd: I’m trying to trace Rod Shepherd who worked for Plessey in Havant in 1960. I believe he was a line supervisor. If you know him, or knew him at the time, please contact me.
