Ghana trip changed Fareham couple’s lives

Eleanor and Leslie Budd have been together since they were at school – and now they have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

The pair grew up in Southsea and Somers Town. Eleanor, 69, says she met Leslie, 70, when she was stood on the side of the road with friends.

He was on the other side with his friends and shouted out to her.

From then on they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

The couple, who live in Southsea, were married at St Mary’s Church on Fratton Road in 1961.

Eleanor had all her friends from London down and the wedding cake was given to them as Leslie worked in a fruit and vegetable wholesalers and regularly delivered to cake shops and florists.

He dress was later made into several christening gowns for family members.

The couple have two children, Julie, 43 and Steven, 35. They also have two grandchildren Ellie, 20, and Jamie, 19, and a great-grandchild Lennox, who is just nine months old. The whole family celebrated the anniversary last Saturday with a big party.
