This week I was lucky enough to taste a wine that is not available yet in the UK.

It reminded me that, when it comes to red wine, my favourite Australian style is when they blend cabernet sauvignon and shiraz together.

The wine in question was Jim Barry Pb Shiraz Cabernet 2006, Clare Valley. It should be available in the UK shortly and this stunning wine is definitely worth searching out. Other wines to look out for in this classic Aussie style include Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, S.Australia (widely available from £8.99) which has over the years been a wonderfully consistent blend with spicy red fruit, a touch of spice and a juicy finish.

Jim Barry Clare Red Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Clare Valley

This is a big, muscular red with plum and black fruits and a touch of spice and eucalyptus, but really well-balanced.
