Creatures from outer space are invading a local family attraction this weekend.

Visitors to Intech are encouraged to dress up as their favourite space character – from Darth Vader and R2D2 to an alien or spaceman – to help celebrate World Space Week 2011.

All who arrive in fancy dress will have the chance to win prizes, including Intech tickets.

Highlights of the two-day event include seeing a prototype Mars Rover (called Bridget) from the ExoMars project, being able to hold real pieces of the moon and meteorites and the opportunity to chat to science fiction characters from Rebel Legion and the UK Garrison.

You can also listen to the Astrium Planetariums space engineers present a special live planetarium show.

There are hand-on activities for guests too, including launching your own water rocket to see how far it will fly, programming a robot and entering the ‘design a spaceship’ competition.

You can also meet John Williams who appeared in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope as he discusses his new kids’s space book. Local amateur astronomers will also be on hand to give out stargazing tips.

Intech, in Winchester, is celebrating World Space Week 2011 tomorrow and Sunday, open daily from 10am until 4pm. For more details, call 01962 863791.
