The Easter holiday weekend is here with its traditional family lunches. It seems to be either roast lamb or turkey at Easter so here are a few suggestions for wines to match.
A great value all round white that would go nicely with the turkey is The Curator’s Choice White 2013, Swartland (Co-op £6.49 on offer from £7.99 until April 22). Made by influential winemaker, Adi Badenhorst, this is a blend of chenin blanc, chardonnay and viognier. It has aromas of peach and citrus followed by a fresh and nicely-textured palate and a surprisingly long finish.
Robert Oatley Signature Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Margaret River (Co-op £11.99), is an elegant wine with blackcurrant, dried herbs and a little mint; there are ripe, grippy tannins, followed by more black fruit on the finish – one for the lamb.
Beronia Reserva 2009, Rioja
Rioja and lamb is just about the perfect combination and this is a text book version of tempranillo-dominated Rioja. From the very good 2009 vintage this has ripe black fruits, a hint of liquorice, eastern spice and some mocha with a lovely velvety mouth feel.
Waitrose, Ocado £12.99
