Tea and cake were the order of the day at Zoe Lander Brinkley and Simon Dodd’s wedding.

The couple would often while away weekend afternoons by going for tea and cake when they first started dating, so decided to use it as a theme when they tied the knot.

Charity shops were scoured for blue and white teapots, which were used as table flowers, types of tea were discovered to use as table names and when they cut the cake, the couple served afternoon tea as their canapes.

Zoe, 30, and Simon, 33, were married at New Place De Vere Venues in Shirrell Heath and held their reception in the Arden Suite, which is near where Zoe grew up in Fareham.

She says: ‘It was perfect as I am a historical novel addict and had my heart set on a stately home with a budget.’

There was so many highlights to the day. Saying our vows and meaning every word, and the flowers were amazing. Who can forget having an ice-cream cart with Jude’s ice-cream as our dessert?’

Simon and Zoe first met through a mutual friend’s birthday party in November 2007, and instantly spent the night chatting away.

Zoe was living in Southsea and Simon lived in Southampton but he spent time away at sea as an instrumentation engineer, but they soon fell for one another.

Simon went on to propose three years later in the New Forest while on bended knee in a puddle.

Zoe says: ‘He made a big speech about how happy I made him and he wanted me to say I’d stay with him forever. I told him he knew I would.’

Now living in the New Forest, the newly weds went on to spend 12 days doing a four city break trip for their honeymoon, which took them to Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest.

Zoe adds: ‘Neither of us enjoy hot beach holidays and we wanted to go somewhere Simon hadn’t been for work - which as he has visited even the Artic and Antarctic is a hard task!’

The best part of the day for the bridge was seeing everyone she loved so happy.

She says: ‘My personal highlight was declaring my love for Simon in front of our loved ones and carrying around this contentment that getting married gave me.

‘It gets better everyday and I absolutely married my Mr Right.’
