Review: Kasabian
Kasabian rock. And we mean rock.
These guys have been under-rated for far too long, but last night at Portsmouth Guildhall their blistering set got the respect it deserved.
Who needs flashy stage shows when you've got their talent – and know it?
Hardcore fans clambered on to their mates' shoulders to get the best view.
Others abandoned lengthy bar queues and long-fought-for pints to battle their way to the front for classic anthems such as Processed Beats.
From the moment frontman Tom took to the stage, he owned it, like only he can.
Casually sweeping aside his lengthy barnet and standing back, now signature checked shirt wringing with sweat – arms folded to survey his followers – it was clear the band was having as much of a good time as the thousands of fans who piled into the venue for a Monday night rock-out.
An unexpected rendition of The Source featuring Candi Staton's You Got The Love cranked up the already electrified crowd during the band's encore.
Then they launched into an extended version of crowd pleaser LSF which saw hands in the air and a unified chorus as dedicated fans abandoned all remaining self-consciousness and let themselves go.
Kasabian brought it. They owned it. The troops are on fire. And long may it last.
