A site manager apprentice for leading local housebuilder Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties has realised a personal ambition by completing the Longleat Half Marathon – while raising cash for charity.

Roddy Webster, aged 24, spent months preparing for the 13-mile race in the grounds of the famous stately home and completed the course in 2 hours and 14 minutes.

Thanks to generous sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues at Taylor Wimpey’s regional headquarters in Chandlers Ford, as well as at The Chariots development in Andover, where Roddy works, he raised a total of £150 for the British Heart Foundation.

Roddy says: ‘I decided to run a half marathon as a personal goal but also to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, which is such a good cause.

‘The challenge of doing a half marathon has been a goal of mine for a number of years but due to work commitments and injuries I have never had the time to prepare for it properly until now.

‘I had a great day and was really pleased with my time – and it’s also brilliant to have been able to raise money for such a fantastic charity. I’d like to thank everyone for sponsoring and supporting me, including my colleagues at Taylor Wimpey, who have been really generous.’

Roddy is one of six apprentices currently working for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties at its new homes developments across the region.

Taylor Wimpey site management apprenticeships involve learning first-hand how the business works as a whole, and include spending time with staff from the technical, commercial, land and planning, sales, finance and customer service departments.

Meanwhile, trade apprenticeships typically include bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, with the majority of the time spent working with the production teams on site.

Apprentices are supported by a mentor while working with experienced tradespeople and also gain formal qualifications through day release programmes.

Commitment, enthusiasm, hard work, pride in their work and a determination to succeed are a few of the qualities that Taylor Wimpey expect their apprentices to demonstrate.

Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties is currently building an excellent range of high-quality homes at many developments across our region.
