An Example of perfect pop
Twenty-six-year-old Elliot Gleave, aka Example, has his super-talented fingers delving deep in to hot pop and urban pies.
Ahead of appearing on the main stage at Bestival next weekend, he'll be heading to the Pyramids in Southsea on Thursday.
He boasts a talent for capturing an unusual mass of genres from jazz to drum 'n' bass, whipping them up into electronic wizardry.
Gleave is most certainly a pop star, producing hit after hit of contagious pop with electronic choruses, vibrant breakdowns and topped with intelligent and driven lyrical raps and melodies.
He insists he is 100 per cent comfortable in his pop skin, saying: 'On my first album I wanted to be a cool credible rapper.
'Then I realised I just wanted to make pop songs, be a popstar, have fun, be on stage and play to big crowds.'
Although he admits he is still a rapper at heart, it seems he is simply experimenting with his lunges into a rainbow of different sounds.
This is a refreshing attitude, as many young urban artists prefer to linger in dark corners as they point their judgmental fingers at the so-called sell-out world of commercial pop.
Example's outlook shines from his second album, Won't Go Quietly, which is fuelled by an intense concoction of energetic beats doused in electro synths and punchy party anthem raps.
Won't Believe The Fools sees the pace slow a little, flashing like a grimy beacon to the world of dubstep and demonstrating a mellower side to this youngster's talent.
Lend-a-hand producers come in the form of Calvin Harris, MJ Cole and Sub-Focus, to name a few, with support gathered from Lily Allen and Tinchy Stryder on top of a whole flock of influential Radio One DJs.
Catch Example at The Pyramids Centre, Southsea, on Thursday from 8pm. Tickets cost 8 from ticketweb.co.uk or on 0844 811 0051.
And, if you have tickets for Bestival, you can see him on the main stage on Friday.
