Love moves in mysterious ways in Matt Aselton's quirky romantic comedy, co-written by Adam Nagata.
The 28-year-old Brian Weathersby (Paul Dano) has nurtured a lifelong dream of adopting a Chinese baby and is using his full-time job as a mattress salesman to make the fantasy a reality.
He's the underachiever of a dysfunctional family – one older brother (Robert Stanton) is a surgeon, the other (Ian Roberts) an oilman – but Brian carries on regardless with the help of sales colleagues Roger (Clarke Peters) and Kevin (Daniel Stewart Sherman).
Following a visit from boorish customer Al Lolly (John Goodman), Brian meets eccentric art collector Happy (Zooey Deschanel) and is instantly smitten.
As they tentatively fan the flames of mutual attraction, Brian contends with his overbearing father (Ed Asner) and a homeless man, who seems intent on beating him up.
