Red Cliff (15)
Director John Woo bids farewell to Hollywood and returns to the East to helm the most expensive Chinese-language film in history, set 1800 years ago during the time of the Han Dynasty when China is divided between ruling forces led by the ambitious Cao Cao (Fengyi Zhang), Sun Quan (Chen Chang) and Liu Bei (Yong You).
Cao Cao compels the Emperor to invade lands under the control of the two rivals, focusing initially on the relatively inexperienced Liu Bei, who is guided by brilliant war strategist Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro).
Overwhelmed by Cao Cao's military might, Liu Bei sends for help from his neighbour and Sun Quan agrees, flanked by his loyal general Zhou Yu (Tony Leung), knowing that his lands will be targeted next.
The battle between the two massed forces comes to a head at Red Cliff, where Sun Quan and Liu Bei make their courageous final stand against Cao Cao while Liang attempts to undermine the attack using his spy within the enemy camp.
