BBC orchestra returns to Chichester for eighth year
Richard Strauss’s vistuoso first horn concerto is the centrepiece of the BBC Concert Orchestra’s programme entitled Essential Classics at Chichester Festival Theatre on Sunday, February 5.
It will be played by Stephen Bell with the orchestra’s Austrian principal guest conductor, Johannes Wildner, on the rostrum. The programme is completed by Haydn’s final symphony, No 104, known as the London symphony. and Enescu’s colourful Romanian Rhapsody No 1.
This concert begins at the unusual time of 5.30pm, but there will be a 7.30pm start when the orchestra returns for a Friday Night is Music Night programme on February 24. This will be broadcast on Radio 2 at a later date.
