Full house at Kings with magical ballet
The Nutcracker
Our initial thoughts were how enthusiastic the dancers were. It was evident, particularly with the younger ones, that they had rehearsed well and were now enjoying their moment in the limelight. Outstanding maturity was shown by these young stars of the future, many from Portsmouth.
The challenging choreography seemed effortless in some instances, however looking closer you could see all of them were displaying a great deal of stamina and strength throughout.
The crowd fell totally silent when Julianne Rice-Oxley graced the stage. The theatre was captivated by her polished performance.
Others worthy of a mention for outstanding performance were Oliver Speers as The Nutcracker Prince, Rebecca Jones as Clara, and Isobel Breach, Leila Critchett, Georgia Hughes, Ellie Rogers, Zara Tree and Sophie Woodbridge as The Dolls.
Clearly great care had been taken with the set design, lighting and direction.
Standing outside The Kings, taking in the night air, as my daughter happily pirouettes at the entrance, we had time to reflect, the verdict being a very good performance by all.
