Two plays that take a look at tough war-time history will be arriving at The Berry Theatre, Hedge End next week.

Direct from its premiere at the National Theatre in November 2011, a brand new play, Stalin’s Favourite, is being performed by Theatre Unlimited on February 6. Poet Konstantin Simonov wrote a hugely popular play in 1941, and overnight he became Stalin’s favourite writer, but he struggled to retain his integrity in a world of war.

Defying Hitler is being performed in tandem with the new play the following day. It’s adapted from the award-winning memoir of a young man growing up around Hitler’s Third Reich.

In 2010, Theatre Unlimited launched the scheme, Living History, which is aimed at enriching GCSE History students’ understanding of momentous events through the use of personal testimony theatre.

The News have teamed up with The Berry Theatre to give readers two tickets for the price of one. Tickets cost £9 to £11 from (01489) 799499. Quote PEN1205Berry for the special offer.
