In November we reported on two young girls, Courtney and Talia, who had been offered the role of Annie in the Portsmouth Players new production. Now, after months of rehearsals, and less than a week away from the opening night, the musical is ready to hit the stage.

Performing at the Kings Theatre, Southsea from February 14-18, the two girls will take it in turns to perform the starring role of the much-loved orphan, Annie.

The musical follows her adventures as she leaves the mean Miss Hannigan behind at the orphanage with all her friends, and determined to find her parents, is taken in by the rich Mr Warbucks.

Courtney Layton, 13, was diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome as a baby, where she couldn’t walk properly, but now she’s going to perform in front of hundreds of people.

Not only that, but after being reported in The News, Courtney went on to be featured in the Daily Star, interviewed by Channel 5, and there’s plans for the story to go in Chat magazine.

She says: ‘We’re rehearsing every day of the week. It’s been so much fun. When I went in the paper everyone from school kept talking to me about it. I can’t wait to be honest. My dream is to perform in the West End.’

Talia Duff, 10, is good friends with Courtney and will be playing Annie on alternate nights. She says: ‘I’m really excited and nervous as well. It’s mixed emotions really. I just can’t wait to do it.

‘When I was in the paper at first everyone was telling me they’d seen me, which made me feel a bit like a celebrity! I can’t wait to do it.’

Tickets cost £7 to £14.50 from Kings Theatre, Southsea on (023) 9282 8282 or go to kings-southsea.com.
