The e-mail wizard is working overtime
Paul Mlinar, branch manager of Handelsbanken, a Swedish bank at 1000 Lakeside, Portsmouth, writes about his past seven days.
I started my day very early as I went to a local Bank of England breakfast meeting.
Approximately a dozen business people meet on a regular basis to discuss the economic outlook and current business activity, pretty heavy stuff over bacon rolls!
About 9.30am I returned to 1000 Lakeside. Although it is 'heading in to work' it is always enjoyable as it's a great place to do business. I walk through the stunning atrium, the receptionist smiles and says 'good morning' and as usual its good to be at work.
There is always some amazing piece of art or sculpture to admire as I arrive to hold a couple of meetings with my colleagues.
We discuss various current deals which are going through and then I crunch through e-mails, turning down the usual opportunities from wonderful companies offering me the chance to become a millionaire overnight – does everyone get these?
Lots of phone calls follow and I quickly dash out noticing some new art in the atrium. There is always something interesting and diverse to catch the eye!
I rush to my lunch meeting at Fat Olives in Emsworth.
Lunching with clients is a great way to cement relationships and we discuss the current credit crunch and the potential pressure that this may bring to their business.
On returning to the office to continue working at my desk, the e-mail wand has cast a spell over my system and I realise that although I responded to them all this morning, there are now a load more new ones in!
Great for business but do we all send more than we need?
Late afternoon I meet with final clients for the day over coffee in the atrium.
The space is great, we do the deal, I say farewell and go back to the e-mail monster!
At about 5.30pm I leave the office and head to the start of an early evening meeting coincidentally being held in one of the conference suites at 1000 Lakeside.
The event was well attended and I was very pleased to hear that around 85m is to be invested into training over the next few years in south Hampshire as I feel it is such a great place to live.
