Time out for a special mum
Full-time mum Jackie Predeth doesn't have much time to sit about relaxing in hair salons.
She has three young children to care for and if she's not busy running around after them, she's doing her duty as a school governor and volunteer.
The 38-year-old tries to get to the hairdresser every couple of months but like a lot of women she's usually in and out in less than 45 minutes.
But her sister Debbie Thompson thought she deserved some time out from looking after Amy, 10, Billy, nine and five-year-old Samuel and nominated her for a makeover.
'I have great admiration for her as she not only has three children under the age of 10 but one of them, Billy, has autism,' wrote Debbie.
'She is a lovely mum to all of them and works very hard to meet their individual needs. It is hard work and a full-time job, however she still finds time to be a governor at Riverside Special School, where Billy goes, and also plays a big part in organising the school fairs and other events.'
Debbie adds: 'Now all three children are at school I would like to boost her confidence with a makeover. She doesn't get much time for herself and this would make her feel really special.'
We were happy to help and arranged for Jackie to visit the team at The Vestry Hair & Beauty in Havant for a pampering day.
Hair
Jackie met up with senior stylist Louise Eden who recently joined The Vestry. When Jackie arrived at the salon her hair was a dull, faded, copper colour and in need of some treatment. There was no real shape to Jackie's hair style and she had a thick, heavy fringe.
Louise began by applying flecks of a deep violet red shade and an all-over semi-permanent colour to transform Jackie's hair.
A Redken treatment was applied to add moisture back before Louise tackled Jackie's cut.
Louise concentrated on taking out some of the volume by creating a choppy, textured style with lots of layering. She added a more wispy fringe and focused on making Jackie's hair look sleeker.
To style, Louise used Tigi products including S Factor Smooth Lusterizer to get rid of frizz and Masterpiece hair spray to give hold and texture.
Make-up
The salon's new beauty therapist Kelly Christopher whisked Jackie up to her special treatment room area to create a new make-up look for her.
After applying concealer and tinted moisturiser, Kelly applied a dab of powder to set the base and bronzer to add colour. Instead of using eyeshadow, Kelly used eyeliner and blended it for a subtle day look.
Mascara was applied as well as a coffee-coloured lipstick and a metallic sheen lipgloss.
Jackie's nails were manicured and painted with a deep burgundy shade for the final glamorous touch.
Verdict?
Jackie, who is married to Jim and lives in Waterlooville, says: 'I was really surprised when I found out Debbie had nominated me and flattered that she had thought to do it.
'It's been a fantastic day and everyone's been really great. Louise took so much time to get it right and everyone's been really friendly. I love my hair colour and cut.'
