PEOPLE in Gosport are being encouraged to help raise £30,000 to refurbish a popular dance venue after it was damaged by floods.
In November last year, Thorngate Halls in Bury Road suffered extensive water damage to its sprung dance floor in the ballroom as a result of storms and flooding.
The process of wetting and drying out caused the timber to misshape and it was deemed sub-standard for a professional dance floor.
Now, Gosport Community Association, which runs the centre, is pleading with the public to help raise the cash to improve the venue. The cost of the new floor is being funded through an insurance claim but thousands more is still needed to refurbish the venue.
Although some of the work will be funded using money already raised, there will be a shortfall of around £30,000.
Lynn Croucher, the association chief executive, said: ‘It’s the main venue in Gosport. A lot of community users use it. We want the people of Gosport to come and help their community centre.’ Call Lynn Croucher on 023 9251 0012.
