Victorian Values
Eccentric, edgy and sensationally witty – House of Burlesque has returned to the Kings Theatre with the Ministry of Burlesque bringing their satirical extravaganza Victorian Values with them.
Our Master of Ceremonies was again Mr Joe Black, always a reliable source for deliciously naughty, just-over-the-line wit and cheeky melodies.
Treated to a delicious mix of fictional characters and historical figures, we meet a sensational Queen Victoria, while Kitty Klaw, founder of the Ministry of Burlesque, was a beautiful opium-addled vision of Britannia and later poured her heart into her roller boots – surely what every comedy-burlesque showcase needs.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's penchant for fairies is sent up beautifully, followed by some electric antics from Nurse Electron and her fanatical master.
Bringing the evening to a tumultuous close was again the astonishing Queen Victoria with a striptease to end all stripteases – bringing the audience to their feet for a roof-raising tribute to the Queen… any Queen!
