Weekend with Tom Bertram
Tom Bertram
Singer-songwriter Tom Bertram is 20 and lives in Havant. He’s holding an album launch party at the Cellars at Eastney on Friday and performing at the official aftershow party for Noel Gallagher’s gig at The O2 in February.
What would be your ideal weekend destination?
Nashville. When I toured there, I fell in love with it. There’s 24-hour live music. It’s a real dream.
Not counting your loved ones, who would be your dream companion?
Noel Gallagher. There can’t be anyone better to guide me the way I want to be guided. He’s had the amazing and had the awful, so the man must know a thing or two.
What music would you take with you?
I’d take the CDs that are in my car at all times which are, John Mayer, Foo Fighters, Matthew Mayfield (who I supported in Nashville and became a fan instantly) and, well, if Noel’s coming, I’d better take his CD.
What about something to read?
I read a lot of books on the music business. I do like magazines though. I will admit to my feminine side.
What would be your ultimate way to relax?
I always tell people about a night drinking cans of beer called Keystone (Coors) at a friend’s home in Mississippi. There was a fire and I was playing Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues on my acoustic guitar and we were all singing. It was, seriously, one of the most lovely moments of my life. So I’d go back to that.
If money were no object, which shop would you head for?
Any musical instrument shop. I get like a kid in those places!
What’s your all-time favourite film?
All the Harry Potters. I’m a big fan! From Paris With Love is up there for sure. I love John Travolta and it’s action all the way through. And I get called Mowgli from Jungle Book because I used to watch it over and over. My dad says the record is seven times in one day. How embarrassing.
We’re buying the drinks tonight. What’s your poison?
Jack Daniels and Coke with two rocks please. Tastes right, smells right and makes you feel right!
What are you doing this weekend?
I will be rehearsing for my tour and the album launch show at the Eastney Cellars.
What’s a favourite localdestination for a weekend day out?
Wherever my grandparents are. Or, more typically, in a studio playing music until I can’t hear, which happens most weekends if not all.
