Well-deserved treat for mum

A difficult pregnancy left Jo Hughes in need of some pampering.

The 21-year-old of Fratton, Portsmouth, was told she wouldn't be able to have children after it was discovered she had polycystic ovary syndrome.

So when Jo discovered she was pregnant with Ella, now two, she was very surprised.

And the surprises kept coming when she again fell pregnant with Callam, now 11 weeks old.

But her pregnancy with her son proved so difficult she actually lost weight while carrying him, so her mum Carol Hughes thought she would nominate Jo for a LifeStyle makeover.

Carol says: 'She really deserved to have a makeover after all she's been through. It gave her something to look forward to.'

Hair

Jo has been dying her hair blonde since she was 14 so was ready for a change from what she describes as a 'yellowy ginger' colour.

She also hadn't changed her style for a few years and was ready for a more modern look, so chatted with stylist Gina Llewellyn to decide her new look.

Gina suggested Jo change from just being blonde to having more colours in her hair, which Jo was happy to try as long as she kept some blonde.

Gina dyed zig-zag sections of Jo's hair chocolate brown and lightened her blonde roots to make a more even colour.

She says: 'Jo's hair was all one length so I cut about four inches off it and then put in shattered layers and shaped it round her face. It's a more modern, edgy cut.

'Having more than one colour also gives the hair a more modern look.'

Make-up

Jo wanted to create an evening look to go with the outfit she picked so make-up artist Cherri Wilson set to work.

She started by removing Jo's make-up and cleansing before applying a honey-coloured foundation that matched her skin, and a translucent powder.

Cherri says: Jo has really nice- shaped eyes so we decided to create a smoky look.'

She started with grey eye liner, followed by a white base on the eye lid. She then applied a silver sparkle over the top and finished with white glitter and deep black mascara.

Because Jo's eyes had been given a dramatic look, Cherri went for a more subtle approach for her lips using pale peach liners and gloss.

She finished the look with rose blusher to bring out Jo's high cheek bones.

Clothes

Jo went to Dorothy Perkins in Cascades shopping centre, Portsmouth, where she picked this simple but elegant black dress,

35.

She accessorised the look with the silver-coloured bangles, 5, and necklace and earrings set, 5.

Verdict

Jo says: I love my new look. My hair was just all one length and needed a change from the yellowy, ginger colour that it had turned into over the years.

'It's a much better style and feels so much better now all the dead ends have gone.

'My make-up looks great as well. It's always nice to have someone else do it for you, and she used colours I don't normally use, which I really like so will probably try in the future.'
