UP to 80 cars are thought to have been destroyed in a huge fire at the Boomtown Fair Festival.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service scrambled six pumps to the blaze which has broken out at the event being held at the Matterley Bowl in Winchester.

A spokesman said: ‘A significant fire has broken out. The boutique camp site next to the car park has been evacuated as a precaution.

‘There are no reports of any injuries.’

BoomTown Fair posted on Twitter: ‘The fire brigade are in attendance at the fire in West Car Park. All attendees are warned to stay away from the location.’

Luke Machin tweeted: ‘Things are really heating up @BoomTownFair as a car fire takes hold.’

BoomTown Fair is a four-day festival with acts including Leftfield, Damian Marley, Madness and Levellers.
