England football legend John Barnes has picked up a Pompey shirt as part of a nationwide charity project.
The star winger is doing a five-day 'van dash' around all the Premier League clubs to raise cash for the Score Ethiopia campaign – a partnership between Wash & Go shampoo and educational charity Link Ethiopia.

The ex-Liverpool and Watford ace met up with Pompey manager Harry Redknapp yesterday to pick up the signed Blues strip.

And the kit will be auctioned off to raise funds for water amenities, schools and football facilities in the Gondar region of Ethiopia.

Barnes took to the road in a van after launching Score Ethiopia in 2007. He visited the town of Lalibela and was struck by the poverty and passion for football he encountered.

John Barnes said: 'All over the world people play football with whatever they can get their hands on. A can, rolled-up clothes or a milk carton full of stones make a ball. But rarely have I witnessed such passion for the beautiful game as I did in Ethiopia.

'The sport brings communities together, promotes health and well being.

'A little money can make a lot of Ethiopian's happy!'

The week-long tour of England saw the ex-England player kicking off at Newcastle's St James's Park and working his way south.
