THIS is the first moments of a cygnet's life as it hatched before his brothers and sisters.
Ruth Chadwick took this picture of a swan and its nest at the moat around Fort Brockhurst in Gosport.
The 52-year-old takes her digital camera there when she goes for walks around the fort with granddaughters Freya, two, and Grace, three.
She set the camera to take several quickfire shots and then selected the best ones on her computer.
Husband Stephen Chadwick, 56, of Parker Close in Elson, said: 'There's a floating nest in the moat and my wife and the granddaughters have been going up there a long time to keep a track.
'You can see the cygnet who's just hatched and there are another six eggs waiting to hatch.'

It is a pity that the moat is full of rubbish and debris with pose a hazard to the survival of this protected birds.
I thought the angling club was supposed to keep it clear of rubbish as part of their lease!!
