They say that playing football is a man's game but that could all change when women's football kicks off in Fareham later this month.
Women from the borough are being invited to get involved in the sport by taking part in women-only football sessions.

The sessions are aimed at giving people more opportunities to get fit and participate in physical activities.

Women of all abi
lities, over the age of 16, are welcome to join.

And don't despair if your fitness is not at its peak as the sessions will include various activities based on getting fit in addition to playing the game.

Ten weeks worth of sessions are planned although Fareham Borough Council, which is behind the scheme, hopes they will become more permanent.

They have been organised as part of the countywide Return to Sport – Want to Get Active? initiative.

Fareham councillor Connie Hockley, in charge of community matters, said: 'Women's football is the fastest-growing sport in the UK and I am delighted that Fareham is organising these women only sessions.

'Playing football is a great way of getting fit, having fun and making new friends.'

The sessions start on Wednesday, September 17, at Seafield Park football facility in Hill Head, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

They cost £2 per session.

For more information about the sessions, or to book a place, please contact Martina Heath by phone on 01329 236100 or you can e-mail maheath@fareham.gov.uk
