A jealous husband who burnt down his home after an argument with his wife is today behind bars.
Gift Kugara caused more than £30,000 worth of damage.

Families living in the block had to be evacuated when flames ripped through the building in the early hours of December 30 last year.

Earlier, Kugara and his wife, Juliette, had gone with f
riends for a night out in Gosport.

The pair argued in a nightclub after Kugara thought another man was being 'over familiar' with his wife.

After a minor scuffle he was thrown out of the club and took a taxi home.

When he got back to the flat in Marles Close, Rowner, he flew into a rage and smashed his television and trashed his own possessions.

Kugara, 28, then set fire to the property and walked out.

Neighbours had already called 999 to report the noise coming from the flat, and when emergency services arrived flames were shooting out of the property.

Three other families had to flee their homes as fire ripped through the block.

Kugara insisted he had not started the fire but said he had burnt a sausage roll.

He maintained the same story during a five-day trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

But the jury rejected his account and found him guilty of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

Kugara, who had been studying at university in Kent, was remanded in custody until he is sentenced in December.
