Faulty lifejackets that could cause major injuries have been sold by retailers across the UK.
Hampshire County Council has issued a warning after discovering that Seago 150 and 175 Newton lifejackets – including junior lifejackets – have a potential defect which could lead to serious injury.

The manufacturer has issued a recall notice and Trading Standards officers are urging any boat owners using the brand to check the jackets immediately.

Leader of Hampshire County Council Ken Thornber said: 'Trading Standards Officers have been swift to contact chandlers and marine retail outlets across Hampshire to raise awareness of this issue.

'But there are concerns that this important safety warning may not have reached all boat owners and other leisure users of our coastline.'

The lifejackets were sold in chandlery shops, marine retail outlets and marine web sites throughout the UK and are marked with a manufacture date in Roman numerals. The quarters affected are: IV/05, I/06, II/06, III/06, IV/06 and I/07.
