THE number of people out of work and claiming benefits has fallen across the region.
The latest monthly figures released this morning from the Office for National Statistics revealed that the number of claimants in Portsmouth had dropped to 2,765 in April, a fall of 249.

Unemployment trends showed that the number of people claiming jobseekers' benefits fell county-wide.

In Fareham the figure dropped by 172 to 591, and Gosport also registered a fall, with 104 fewer people signing on, bringing the figure to 734.

The council with the highest number of jobseekers was in Havant, with 1,355 – only 45 fewer claimants than this time last year.

In East Hampshire there were 544 claimants, down by 97.

Oh i wonder why...maybe its because they worked out that they would get more by not earning for themselves! I know 18-19 year old girls who see having a baby and living off benefits as an easy option, because they get a free house and money to live, and its cheaper and easier for them to do so. They need to lower benefits for people who dont work (who CAN work) and give that money to the people who do work hard and pay taxes and raise peoples wages.

oops..maybe i should have read the article first. But what i said still stands, the government and councils make it far too easy for people to live of benefits, and then they wonder why so many people do.
