Keith Young, 49, from Aldingbourne, near Chichester, will follow the path of the Antarctic explorer to raise funds for Winston's Wish, which helps bereaved children and their families.
Mr Young, who runs a web-based multimedia company, has been go
ing to extreme lengths to make sure he is ready for the challenge – he has been training in Norway and has been running around Aldingbourne pulling a large tractor tyre behind him.
His team departs on October 15, first to the Falkland Islands, and then will sail 750 miles across the southern ocean to South Georgia.
Shackleton and his 28 colleagues lost their ship during the 1914 British Antarctic Expedition.
He led his men across the ice to Elephant Island in three small boats before he took five men some 800 gruelling miles to reach King Haakon Bay on the south coast of South Georgia.
Shackleton was able to rescue all his crew without a single life lost.
Mr Young said: 'Once on land, we will retrace the exact route Sir Ernest Shackleton, Tom Crean and Frank Worsley took.'
He has so far raised £1,200 for Winston's Wish, which helps children rebuild their lives after the death of a parent or sibling.
