THE cream of Portsmouth's artistic talent is on show to the public after a fierce competition.
Hundreds of local artists put in work to be displayed at the City Museum and Records Office in Museum Road.

Of 780 entries, 300 made it to the Portsmouth Open exhibition which runs from today until Sunday, January 4.

The range of work on show includes paintings, sculpture, mixed media and photography.

A panel of expert judges chose the work to go on show and selected three prizewinners and six highly-commended works.

First prize went to Karl Rudziak's dominating oil portrait of 'Smithy'. Second prize went to a colourful acrylic abstract called 'Around 1' by Paul Everitt. Third prize went to Louise Sandford's 'Majestic Lion Fish', a delicate graphite drawing.

Many of the works are for sale and anyone purchasing work from the exhibition will be able to collect it in time for Christmas.

The exhibition is open every day from 10am to 5pm, except for December 24 to December 26.
