Sailors return in time for royal visit
Returning sailors and royal visitors were expected at Portsmouth Naval Base this morning.
The British warship HMS Westminster – which rushed to assist after a devastating cyclone hit Burma – was due to return home at 10.15am.
At the same time the Earl of Wessex was set to arrive to hand out the Queen's Colour to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
Prince Edward is scheduled to make the award to the RFA on the deck of the Largs Bay in recognition of the work the ship has done tackling the international drugs trade.
The amphibious landing craft has been based in the Caribbean for several months.
The Royal Marines Band are lined up to play during the ceremony, one of their last engagements before Meet Your Navy starts on July 25.
HMS Westminster left Portsmouth in January for the Orion 08 deployment alongside the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious.
