A MAN who died after his car ploughed into a tree has been described by his stepmother as a 'free spirit'.
Richard Wasiek died on Monday morning from injuries he suffered in the crash.

Mr Wasiek, 53, of Sudley Gardens, Bognor Regis, was travelling south in a Nissan Micra when the accident occurred in Brittens Lane, Fontwell, at 2am on October 27.

His father Alex and his stepmother Elizabeth, of North Bersted Street in North Bersted, visited the spot on Tuesday.

Mrs Wasiek said: 'Rick was a private person and a free spirit. He built a plane at one time.

'My husband is in civil engineering. Rick worked with him in London for a while but never liked to be in an office.

'He did motorcycle courier work for a while and then went to work at Heathrow Airport fuelling planes for an airline.

'But he was made redundant three months ago and moved across to Alitalia to be a baggage handler. He was hoping to work his way up from there.'

Mr Wasiek had been briefly married but had no children.

He moved to Bognor about seven or eight years ago and was on his way home from Heathrow when the accident took place.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the police on 0845 60 70 999, quoting Operation Peddar.
