TEENAGER Matthew Drummond has been crowned the Style Icon winner for 2008.
Crowds clapped and cheered as the name of the 16-year-old from Horndean was announced.
Matthew, an A-Level student at Oaklands College, Waterlooville, beamed from ear to ear as photographers snapped away
Last year's winner Vicky Knight presented him his sash and £5,000 of prizes.
Matthew, who has one older brother Dan, 19, said: 'I've always been interested in fashion but I've no idea where I get it from – it is definately not my mum!
'My brother is a bit macho and I haven't told him about this yet. I don't know what he'll say.'
The part-time cleaner and football coach admits he is partial to a bit of male grooming.
He added: 'I use hair straighteners and sometimes a bit of foundation before I go out. I have tried using fake tan but I ended up looking like an umpa-lumpa!
'Ten years ago if you told your friends you use straighteners they would completely rip it out of you. But things have changed.
'My girl mates give me tips on what to wear and I will look out for the latest trends and go to charity shops so I can get the look for less.'
Matthew hopes that by becoming the face of Style Icon, it will encourage more men to be proud of taking care of their image.
'It's not about being female – males can pull it off too. There are a lot of celebs that use products and that has helped.
'David Beckham is my style icon. When I had long hair like him I used to wear an Alice Band for football,' he said. Matthew of Fiveheads Road, Horndean, will be the face of Cascades shopping centre, Portsmouth, and will appear in all of the promotional photos until next year when he hands his crown over to another worthy winner.
Proud mum, Sheila, 51, shouted out to the elated audience at Cascades, yesterday: 'He is such a special boy. He is the daughter I never had.
'People have often told him he could be a model and Style Icon is just the platform he needs to get into it.'
Over 1,000 people entered Style Icon.
They were whittled down to the grand final by judges over a series of events.
