A teenager was fighting for his life today after a car ploughed into a parked lorry in a quiet street.
The 17-year-old suffered serious head injuries in the crash in a cul-de-sac in Waterlooville.

He was a front seat passenger in a car that hit the lorry and then hit an Alpha Romeo car. Both the lorry and the Alpha Romeo were parked with no-one ins
ide.

The accident happened at 7.45pm yesterday in Chaucer Close near to its junction with Milton Road.

Today police said the 17-year-old youth was in the neurological unit of Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed there straight from the scene.

The car in which he was travelling, a red Fiat Punto, was being driven by another 17-year-old boy.

Two other passengers were in the back – a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman. Police said all the occupants lived locally.

The driver and the two women escaped without serious injury.

But the front seat passenger had to be cut out of the Fiat by fire and rescue teams from Waterlooville and Copnor fire stations.

Ian Harper-Ronald, 63, of Chaucer Close, was the first on the scene.

He said: 'This car came flying down the street and went straight into the back of the lorry.

'The sun was straight in front and I think the driver was blinded by it. It was one hell of a smash.

'I was the first one there and I saw the other people get out. I got into the driver's seat and checked on the driver's passenger.

'He was unconscious and in a very bad way. It looked like he took the full brunt of the impact.'

Police said the Fiat hit a white Iveco dropside lorry parked at the side of the road.

South Central Ambulance Service sent two ambulances to the scene, two doctors and a rapid response car.
