Pompey fans faced fresh misery trying to buy tickets today.
The fourth phase of ticket sales for the FA Cup semi-final began at 6am with 6,500 tickets selling out in just over two hours.
But some fans had difficulties in getting tickets as the reference number they needed to buy online from Ticketmaster was not accepted.
The fourth stage was open to non-season ticket holders on Pompey's database, which required them to get the client reference number from the club.
Sandra Leat, from Farlington, tried to get tickets for her husband and her nine-year-old son, but was told her reference number was not valid.
She said: 'We called the club three times yesterday to get the client reference number but online it's not recognised on the database.
'It's such a shame because we thought going on the internet would make it much easier.
'Getting up at 6am to make phone calls is bad enough but going on the internet would have been perfect.
'It's frustrating. You can't get hold of anyone at that time of the morning.'
But Rick Strang, from Tunbridge Wells who was born in Portsmouth, managed to get tickets over the phone.
But he says he was informed by the operator that the client reference number wasn't necessary and that it would be checked by the individual credit card.
'They are not interested in the client reference number at all. I could be anybody,' he said.
'If we get to Europe next year and there are big European games what are we going to do then? It's going to be a shambles.'
Some season ticket holders have questioned why the online service was not available from the start.
Gary Double, director of communications at the club, said: 'The tickets didn't go on sale online in the earlier phases due to technical difficulties, which have now been overcome.'
Mr Double said that the club was also trying to contact Ticketmaster about the issues raised by fans this morning.

How to get to the match
After four separate phases of ticket sales, there is now only one authorised way of getting a ticket to the FA Cup semi-final between Pompey and West Brom.

  • A batch of 1,180 tickets will go on sale from the club's ticket office at 9am on Wednesday, April 2.

  • They will be available to season ticket holders only and be limited to two per person.

  • The seats are those left over from the first phase of ticket sales plus 80 Club Wembley seats.

  • The tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Why oh why did pompey just not put ALL of the tickets on the pompey website and make it easier for the fans to buy them. If need be let season ticket holders get the first allocation then allow any other fans to buy them straight after. BUT limit the fans to 2 tickets each. In this day and age it can be simple. As a pompey fan for many years it just seems to have been handled as a complete farce!! Please IF we get to the final make it easier! ie stop ticketmaster selling them and sell the tickets from the club.

Tried to get phase 4 tickets for a friend who is away on hol, I had her ref No. and credit card details etc. Trying online wasnt working. On constant phone redial on 2 phones for 2hr 10mins - then got the 'sold out message'! Did actually get through about 7 times only to get the 'all operators busy - call back later'! I agree with others that once through you should be held in a queue to speak to an operator not just cut off!

Yes Ticket Master have been a shambles but at the end of the day EVERY season ticket holder, member, junior blue, PFC staff and corporate partner got a ticket and rightfully only the one ticket, not 2 which some people feel they should get. Thats a fact however long it took to get it on the phone, how many redials and wherever it is in the ground EVERY person who should get a ticket got one. So can those who were guaranteed a ticket STOP moaning, you are starting to get boring and make PFC fans look like a right load of moaning idiots. It is 2008 and there is no need to queue up for hours in the rain to get a ticket you are already guaranteed. those of you who are willing to do that obviously are not busy enough and should do something better with your spare time. For those not guaranteed a ticket I agree ticketmaster has let them down as well and the client number issue is something that should be looked at by PFC and addressed in the future.

I phoned up the ticket office yesterday asking if I needed my client ref and they said no you didn't. So got up at 5.45am to get ready to buy 2 tickets on-line, but got asked for my client ref number!!! Also tried phoning the wonderful Ticketmaster, got through and they asked for my client ref number!!! It's ruined a birthday present for my nephew!!! Wake up PFC and sort this mess out!!

Got up at 5.30am and had 2 pc's and 2 phones on the go.
Got through the the answer machine 3 times and each time was told no one available to take the call....Client Ref number didn't work eiher.
I understand it was always going to be a lottery but this has just left me tired and deflated.
I blame Ticketmaster more than Pompey though.. the club has to try differnt ways to cut costs and progress procedures. This didn't work so lets hope next time is better.
On another note - I think the people selling tickets for £400 on the internet however should be ashamed.... And they call themselves fans...

Another fiasco my PFC client ref wasn't on Ticketmasters database so I couldn't buy online and then having tried to phone I got through after 40 minutes, my heart raced in excitement, I pressed "1" for FA Cup Semi Final tickets, then pressed "1" to purchase FA cup semi final tickets the the voice said "I'm sorry, all of our operators are busy, please call back later" what an absolute mess. If you get through you expect at least to be helds in a queue, I was prepared for that, not prepared for being cut off though. Only PFC could have got this so badly wrong, I wonder how many tickets are on the internet now for £200+

It wasnt until another number was posted on here. I got through to an automated service and was succesful, called tickermaster cust services at half 9 and they confirmed my booking!
