The sky above Portsmouth will be filled with paper birds this Sunday to celebrate the Olympic Flag handover ceremony.
Anyone with a wish, ambition, or dream can write it on a specially-designed paper 'dream bird' and see it fly to the skies during the celebrations' grand finale.

Portsmouth City Council plans to release thousands of dream birds from the roof of th
e civic offices.

The handover ceremony, which will see the official flag transferred from the Beijing Olympics to the London 2012 games, will be televised live on the big screen in the Guildhall Square.

Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said: 'The handover of the Olympic flag will be a truly historic moment, not just for London, but for the whole of the UK.'

A Chinese lion and a group of Chinese dancers will be performing in the square and a group of young gymnasts will show off their skills.

The event will begin at 1pm and celebrations will continue throughout the afternoon, ending with the release of the dream birds at 5.15pm.

A template for a dream bird will be printed in The News on Thursday, or they are available from the Civic Offices, central library, visitor information and can be printed off the Portsmouth City Council website at www.portsmouth.gov.uk.

All birds need to be handed in to the Civic Offices by the end of Friday, or the central library by midday on Saturday.
