Women treated after bin blaze fumes spread

TWO women were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after toxic fumes spread into flats from a wheelie bin fire.
The large bins caught fire at about 7pm yesterday in a yard next to a house converted into three flats in Gladys Avenue, North End, Portsmouth.
A fire crew from Copnor fire station put out the blaze and helped a man and a woman out of the building.
The women were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
Smoke had got into the flats because the windows had been left open as it was a hot day.
The police are not treating the fire as suspicious.
Cosham watch manager Tim Burgess said: 'The big wheelie bins give off a lot of toxic smoke as it's made out of plastic and it filled up the three flats.
'There wasn't a great deal of damage to the roof although there was some charring inside. Most of the fire damage was in the yard and the wheelie bins.'
