A museum is offering a once-in-lifetime opportunity to feel the power of one of its historic big guns – and raise money for charity in the process.
The Royal Armouries Museum at Fort Nelson is auctioning off the chance to fire a Second World War 25 pound howitzer as part of the TopLots programme.

The event at the Portsdown Hill museum, near Fareham, is one of 150 lots that will be available t
o bid on throughout May and June, supporting not-for-profit UK arts and heritage organisations.

Billed as ideal to mark a special birthday or occasion – or simply to fulfil the ambition of any enthusiast – the winner's experience will begin with a personal briefing from the Royal Armouries' keeper of artillery on how to operate this famous weapon which saw action in many theatres of war.

And the highlight of the day will be the chance to join the fort's gun crew to actually fire the gun at their daily public gun firing.

After a snack lunch to recover, you will be taken on a personal tour of one of the world's most historic collections of artillery.

The Fort Nelson lot will go online at eBay on May 29 for 10 days.

Bidding on other lots starts from May 15.

See www.toplots.co.uk for more information or go direct to www.ebay.co.uk/toplots to get bidding.
