TWO local charities benefited from the generosity of a shopping centre’s customers.

Mayor of Fareham David Norris accepted the donation of £533 from Fareham Shopping Centre.

All the cash will be donated to his two chosen charities – The Rowans Hospice and the RSPCA’s Stubbington Ark animal shelter.

Staff at the shopping centre collected the money during November and December from events held over the festive period.

As the money was mainly coins, it was decided that wheelbarrow was needed to deliver the cash to the mayor.

Cllr Norris said he thought that it was a novel way to deliver the load and that it made it easier to transport it back to the Mayor’s Parlour.

Mike Taylor, centre manager, said: ‘It was a pleasure to be able to assist two local charities that do such good work in the community.

‘I am most grateful to the members of the public who donated to the charities and I thank them all for their generosity.’
