RESCUE teams and two lifeboats were sent out in a search after a school uniform was found on a beach.

Hill Head coastguard and two independent life-boats from Gosport were involved in the search yesterday afternoon in Lee-on-the-Solent.

To avoid incidents like this, we would ask all beachgoers to take their clothes home with them, or use the bins on the beach if they are no longer needed.

There had been a report of clothes, including a school uniform, and damp towels left on the beach at Stokes Bay.

Teams searched the area.

Dan Winter, coastguard, said: ‘We didn’t know if or when this person may have gone into the water so we had to initialise a search effort.

‘Fortunately, no one was reported missing and it seems certain this person is safe ashore somewhere.

‘Now the summer holidays are here, to avoid incidents like this, we would ask all beachgoers to take their clothes home with them, or use the bins on the beach if they are no longer needed.’
