HAMPSHIRE and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance will feature in a new prime-time ITV documentary series.

Trauma: Level 1 will be broadcast on ITV on August 27 and September 3 at 9pm.

The series was produced by October Films with access to the specialist trauma centre at University Hospital Southampton.

It takes a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of the hospital, the stories behind the incidents they deal with, and shows how the crew of the air ambulance interact with the centre on a daily basis.

Through interviews with paramedics and scenes from life-saving missions, it gives a rare insight into the day-to-day operations of the air ambulance crew.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance paramedics are filmed working at the scene of an incident and handing over the patient to the trauma team.

The helicopter can be called out several times a day – from receiving a call, it can be airborne in four minutes and can reach anywhere in Hampshire within 15 minutes and the Isle of Wight within 20.

The charity is dependent on donations. For more information go to hiow-airambulance.org.ukwork.
