AN ANIMAL shelter is looking for runners to take its last few spots for this year’s Great South Run.
Stubbington Ark has nine charity places left for the 10 mile run around Portsmouth and Southsea on October 30.
Vanessa Eden, fundraising manager, said: ‘Anyone taking part in the race is guaranteed to have fun.
‘It is such a great atmosphere on the day, despite the obligatory rain, plus you will be helping the thousands of unwanted animals that cross our threshold every year.’
Doug Lammet, who ran last year for the charity, said: ‘My friends kept urging me to run, so I thought why not give it a go.
‘I nearly gave up towards the end but I finished up raising £550 for the Stubbington Ark.’
Entry is free but runners are asked to pledge to raise a minimum of £150 for the charity.
Serving a catchment area of 400 square miles, the Ark spends £2,500 a day on its running costs.
